Dirt Dog | Los Angeles, California

» Dirt Dog « Neighboring the University of Southern California (USC), Dirt Dog takes a creative and delicious spin to the classic LA hot dog.

I first heard of this joint in a video on Facebook. Frankly, I'm usually not into hot dogs, except for the occasional Costco hot dog (you can't beat $1.25 for a hot dog and drink. You know what I'm sayin'.), but the unique toppings and cool vibes beckoned me to visit Dirt Dog the next time I went to Los Angeles. During Memorial Day weekend, I took a day trip to LA to see museums. Sadly one of the museum we were supposed to visit was closed, but the other, 14th factory, was open for viewing. Dirt Dog was on our itinerary for lunch.

» Food & Drink «

We ordered 4 different hot dogs, the house dog, the green dog, patty melt dog and a secret menu hot dog, the elote dog. You can choose to between a traditional, Portuguese or lobster (+0.50) bun.

The House Dog | $6.25 | Bacon thousand island and green chile spread | A small twist to the classic dog. Good taste. Perfect if you want something closest to the original.

The Green Dog | $6.25 | Chimichurri sauce and guacamole spread | Great taste! Nice creaminess from the avocado spread. The bell peppers and chimichurri sauce help cut through the oil of the dish.

Patty Melt Dog | $7.25 | Melted cheddar fries and chipotle aioli spread | It has a spicy kick from the chipotle aoili. Perfect for fries and cheese lovers. It is very cheesy.

Elote Dog | $6.25 | YES! Taste like a classic street style elote with Mexican crema and cotija cheese. A squeeze of a lime slice tops the dog off, giving a nice citrus taste. (This is a secret menu item)

You might not feel full if you got one. For me, I was content but not full at all. Do for any of you men or ladies who maybe have an apeetite, you might want to get two dogs.

» Service «

Service was average. The cashier was very helpful and answered any questions I had about the menu.

Service | 20/30

» Aesthetics & Atmosphere«

If you like 90s hip hop or urban street vibes, you'll love this place. I'm in love with the interior. The walls are a dark brick and they even have a graffiti mural of Tupac. It's street style with a clean look. They do play with trendy elements such as neon signs and exposed vents, but they do a great job incorporating it to their theme, it's not that girly, white and pink aesthetics that a lot of trendy eats are currently doing. You can enjoy your meal and feel nostalgic with all the old hip hop beats they play in the restaurant.

Aesthetics & Atmosphere | 15/15

» Parking «

Dirt Dog is located in small corner plaza, it is a bit run down and you should be careful of the other drivers. One driver was definitely not looking when I parked but overall it isn't hard to find a spot.

Parking | 5/5

» Price «

The classic LA street dog is about $5 so paying a buck and twenty five cents more isn't a bad deal for the extra creativity.

Price | Worth It!

» Overall «

I really enjoyed Dirt Dog and would recommend it to anyone visiting LA. The food was delicious and the experience was unique. I would suggest paying the extra fifty cents for the lobster roll, it just gives it a bit more class.

Overall | 80/100
