Escape Rooms have been the new trend in things to do, so me and a couple friends decided we wanted to see what the hype was about on a Friday night.
We first checked to see if there were any deals for Escape Rooms in Orange County on Groupon and Living Social. With a couple options to choose from, we chose the Puzzle Workshop one because A) It closes pretty late = midnight, B) It wasn't a horror/scary scenario. I don't know if I can handle being under time pressure and scared of some serial killer or zombie trying to kill me, and C) There was a Groupon for it making the cost $15 per person instead of $30 each.
The Puzzle Workshop is located in a business park in Irvine and was a bit difficult to find because the only sign is on their transparent door. At the top of the stairs you are greeted by a pair of friendly employees (Shout out to Stephanie for answering all our question and just being awesome) and a red couch with a background of pictures of Escape Room participants. The pictures have various groups holding signs of sad and happy faces, "5 more minutes", "Busted!" etc. and served as perfect motivation to win and not be a part of the "Wall of Shame." There is 6 person max limit but for us that was fine.
So a little about it without giving everything away, we did the Illuminati scenario where our goal was to steal a statue from of the office of an Illuminati member and escape within the hour time limit. You are basically doing puzzles the whole time, one puzzle leading you to another, until you "escape". Serious props to the person/people who makes these things because they are pretty awesome, the puzzles keep you on your toes, making you analyze and observe your surroundings. Illuminati was the harder of the two that this location has, the other being the Scarlett Room, and it also had a less than 10% passing rate. No pressure... So it felt GREAT WINNING! We were the 10%!!! YAAAY!
This being my first time doing an Escape Room, I definitely want to check out more. What can I say, I love puzzles and riddles, I'm addicted. I highly recommend this location and puzzle!
