Part 2 of 2. John's Birthday immersion into EDM. Having gone to the Jai Wolf concert last Friday at the Santa Ana Observatory, this was the second part to going to fun concerts, PORTEON!
I have been waiting months to see them, especially since I feel in love with their "Shelter" music video. John and I have actually seen Porter Robinson back in 2013 when he came to Sun God at UCSD. It's been cool watching him go from a campus performance to an international tour and continue to become a musician that cares for the art. The "Shelter" music video is below but you should watch the behind the scenes video where you can see how passionate he was to bring to life the vision for this song. Even with the language barrier of working with a Japanese anime studio (A-1 studio), he was there every step of the way. He created something beautiful.

It's been a while since I've gone to a DJ/EDM event at Valley View, the young college days. Last time John and I was here was actually for the Ed Sheeran Concert (Where are you?). It definitely brought back memories. It felt cool and strange at the same time seeing all the younger friends I made when I was an upperclassmen at UCSD. They've all grown up.
The opening acts were Robotoki and San Holo. Robotoki was alright, I just didn't care for his set. At this point I was on the dance floor but it was just too crowded. I just was not having a good time, not being able to move, blocked by a big white guy and people pushing through. We left our spot and ended up finding that the left most staircase in the stands was free to stand, giving us the perfect view of the stage and the ability to move freely. YAAAAS! San Holo had a more enjoyable set. Brownie points for the name (I love Star Wars!)

At 10:45pm, Porter Robinson and Madeon took the stage and I entered heaven. They opened with their collaboration track, "Shelter."
They played my favorite Madeon song and I went CRAZY!!! I pulled out my phone right away and began recording the performance but my dumb self recorded it in slowmo T.T.

Great Music + Great Editing + Disney = On Replay
The Shelter Live set was filled with hits from both producers, interpreting each other's music, creating something familiar while new and exciting, the shelter version of the song. They worked wonderful together, singing, dropping beats and dancing together. Some of the notable hits were Madeon's "Pay No Mind," "Finale" and "Pop Culture" and from Porter's hits "Sad Machine," Fresh Static Snow" and "Easy." No words can describe the awesomeness of the artistry of the concert, the visuals and sounds Porter and Madeon have given. For their encore song, they performed a lullaby, acoustic version of "Shelter" with Madeon's angelic vocals and Porter's soft keyboard melody. They made me happy, smiling from ear to ear the entire time. I will definitely go back to a concert performed by these two, most likely next time they'll be doing their own thing but hopefully they continue to collaborate in the future. Shipping Porteon forever! I wish everyone could have been there...so press play to the youtube video of the entire set list from one of their shows :P
