SOOO EXCITED FOR PUMPKINS AND CORN MAZES!!!
I've been bugging John to take me to a pumpkin patch for three years!!! Every year I see a ton of people post pretty pumpkin patch pictures (look at that alliteration! My 8th grade english teacher would be proud) and I want to take basic pumpkin pictures too! Since I was visiting John in San Diego for a couple days, we decided to finally make my dream come true this weekend and go to a pumpkin patch. I began my research. There is a good amount of pumpkin patches to choose from, including Suzie's Farm which we visited two weeks earlier and frolicked in a sunflower field. However, I really wanted to find one that had a corn maze. I narrowed my search to a pumpkin patch off the freeway in Carlsbad, Pumpkin Station's Rancho Bernardo and Bonita locations. The lucky pumpkin patch we visited was in Rancho Bernardo. I thought since we never visit north county, other than go to the Safari Park, "Why not?".
Right behind the the row of sunflowers is their corn maze! YAAAAAAS!!! So we were actually at the exit and had to go around to the entrance... Mazes are just trial and error. It's pretty cute watching the kids run around and yell NOOOOOO it's a dead end. Again! So we just didn't go that way. Learning from their mistakes. After about 20 minutes we were freeeeeeeee. It's not really big and definitely doable. Later, we found out it was actually $2 to go inside but we didn't know since there was no one guarding the entrance. Oops!
Now it was pumpkin pickin' time! We were going for cute pumpkins, so we got a $4 pumpkin each. We were on the hunt for the perfect canvas!
We found our perfect matches :)
Now time to take you home little ones!
Before we went home we picked up a pumpkin carving kit and battery powered tea light candles from Michael's. Don't forget to go online and look up coupons! There's always 50%-20% coupons all the time, so save your dollah dollah bills.
With so many possibilities we searched on Pinterest for ideas. John found a Cheshire Cat and Tinkerbell design that were not too difficult and looked pretty cool. This was John's first time pumpkin carving but I've done it once when I was little and totally failed. Before I didn't understand that in order to get the design you wanted you had to keep some parts pumpkin and not make cuts too thin or else it would break... but I've learned from young Justine. I drew out our shapes and we carved our masterpieces. Here are the final products:
They turned out pretty AWESOME! The pictures don't do our pumpkins justice!
Next year we'll try a little bit more difficult design...
